Usage Tips

  • Dedicated 12V Supply Rail: Because segments A–G have 4 to 5 internal LED dies in series requiring 8V to 10V forward drop, **do not attempt to drive this display directly from 5V logic rails**. Power the Common Anode rail from a regulated +12V DC power source.
  • Separate Current-Limiting Resistor for DP: The Decimal Point (DP) contains fewer LED dies (approx. 4V to 4.4V drop) compared to segments A–G (~9V to 10V drop). Always calculate and use a higher value series resistor for the DP pin to prevent over-current burn-out when driving from a 12V supply.
  • Use Low-Side High-Voltage Drivers: Drive segment cathodes using open-collector / open-drain driver ICs such as the **ULN2803A Darlington array** or **TPIC6C595 / TPIC6B595 power shift registers** controlled by a 3.3V or 5V microcontroller (Arduino, ESP32, or STM32).
