Product Details

The Original TDA7498E 100W+100W / 160W+160W Dual BTL Class-D Audio Amplifier is a high-power monolithic dual bridge-tied load (BTL) Class-D audio amplifier integrated circuit manufactured by STMicroelectronics. Encapsulated in a thermally efficient PowerSSO-36 (with exposed heat slug) package, it is engineered to deliver high-fidelity, high-efficiency audio amplification from a single DC power rail ranging from 14V to 36V. Operating at up to 90% power efficiency, the TDA7498E can output up to 160W + 160W into 4Ω loads (at THD = 10%, Vcc = 36V), 100W + 100W continuous low-distortion power (at THD = 1%), or up to 220W in Parallel BTL (PBTL / Mono) configuration into 3Ω loads. Featuring differential analog inputs, four selectable fixed-gain settings, pop-free standby and mute controls, and intelligent short-circuit/thermal overload protection, it is widely utilized in high-power active home theater speakers, soundbars, Bluetooth amplifier boards, and public address systems.

Features

  • High Power Output with High Efficiency: Delivers up to 2 × 160W from a single DC rail without the bulky heat sinking required by conventional Class-AB amplifier designs.
  • Configurable Stereo BTL or High-Power Mono PBTL: Supports standard 2-channel stereo bridge-tied load operation or single-channel parallel bridge-tied load (PBTL) for driving heavy subwoofers down to 3Ω impedance.
  • Four Selectable Fixed Gain Levels: Hardware gain selection pins (GAIN0, GAIN1) allow direct matching to upstream Bluetooth modules, DACs, or preamplifier output levels without external gain-setting resistors.
  • Differential Analog Inputs: Reduces common-mode ground noise, hum, and digital RF interference from nearby Bluetooth / Wi-Fi streaming chips.
  • Integrated Pop-Free Smart Control: On-chip soft-start, zero-detect mute, and standby controls eliminate audible pops and clicks during power-on and power-down cycles.
  • Comprehensive On-Chip Protection: Includes intelligent overcurrent protection (IOCP), output short-circuit protection to ground/supply rails, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), and thermal shutdown.

Common Applications

  • High-Power 2.0 & 2.1 Channel Bluetooth Amplifiers: Core amplifier IC for active bookshelf speakers, party speakers, and tabletop stereo systems.
  • Home Theater Soundbars & Powered Subwoofers: Driving multi-driver soundbars and dedicated low-frequency mono subwoofer enclosures.
  • Public Address (PA) & Commercial Sound Systems: Modular power amplifier stages for multi-zone background music and paging distribution.
  • Automotive & Marine Audio Amplifiers: High-efficiency booster amplifiers running from boosted 24V/36V DC-DC power converters.
  • Arcade Cabinets & DIY Audio Stations: Compact, high-output audio amplification in space-constrained enclosures.

Usage Tips

  • Power Supply Voltage Selection: For optimal 100W+ continuous output per channel, use a well-regulated DC power supply between 24V and 32V (up to 36V max for peak power) capable of supplying at least 6A to 10A current.
  • Output LC Filter Sizing: Each bridge output requires an LC low-pass reconstruction filter to reconstruct the analog audio waveform and block PWM carrier switching noise. Use 10µH to 15µH high-current inductors rated for at least 6A–8A saturation current paired with 0.47µF to 0.68µF metalized film/high-grade ceramic capacitors.
  • Thermal Heatsink Mounting: Because the PowerSSO-36 package dissipates heat through its thermal pad, ensure the bottom thermal slug is firmly soldered to a heavy PCB copper ground plane or mounted against an aluminum heatsink using high-conductivity thermal paste or thermal pads.
  • Bootstrap Capacitors: Connect high-quality 220nF (0.22µF) ceramic capacitors between the BOOTxx pins and corresponding output pins to provide proper high-side gate drive bias during Class-D switching.
  • Differential Input Coupling: Connect 1µF to 2.2µF low-leakage film or polyester DC-blocking capacitors in series with all input pins (IN1P, IN1N, IN2P, IN2N) to maintain correct internal DC biasing.
