The TMC2225 V1.1 is an ultra-silent, high-precision stepper motor driver module developed by Trinamic. Designed as an enhanced, cost-effective derivative of the popular TMC2208/TMC2209 series, it replaces noisy legacy drivers (like the A4988 or DRV8825) on 3D printer mainboards, CNC routers, and robotics setups. Professional Installation & Tuning Tips

  • CRITICAL: Verify Pin Orientation Before Plugging In:Never insert or remove this driver module while power is applied to the mainboard. Furthermore, pay close attention to pin labels (DIR,STEP,GND,VM). Installing the driver upside down will instantly burn out both the driver IC and your controller board.
  • Setting the Reference Voltage (VREF): When operating in standard STEP/DIR mode without UART, set the phase current accurately using a multimeter. Measure DC voltage between the potentiometer metal wiper screw (Positive Probe) and System Power Ground (Negative Probe):

    VREF = Target Current (A RMS) x 1.414

  • Provide Active Cooling Fans: Even with the improved HTSSOP package, running current levels above 0.8A - 1.0A without forced airflow will cause thermal throttling, leading to missing steps mid-print. Always mount the included adhesive aluminum heatsink on top of the IC pad and direct a 40mm cooling fan over the driver bank.
  • Disable Motor Reverse Pins in Firmware if Replacing A4988s: The pinout direction logic of TMC drivers can be inverted relative to legacy Allegro A4988 modules. If your motor moves backward after replacing an A4988, flip the motor wiring plug 180°C or change INVERT_X_DIR from true to false (or vice versa) in your Marlin/Klipper configuration files
