Product Details

The Omron MY4N-J 240VAC 5A 240VAC 28VDC 14pin Electromagnetic Relay is an industrial-grade miniature 4-Pole Double-Throw (4PDT) power relay engineered for sequence control, electrical isolation, automated switching panels, and industrial machinery. Featuring a high-voltage 220V–240V AC operating coil, it is equipped with an integrated mechanical flag indicator and a bright LED status lamp ("N" designation) that confirms coil energization in real time. Designed with standard 14-pin blade-type plug-in terminals, it interfaces seamlessly with DIN-rail mount sockets (such as the PYF14A series) or direct through-hole PCB/panel mount sockets, providing dependable multi-circuit control for resistive and inductive industrial loads.

Features

  • Dual Status Indication ("N" Designation): Features both an internal LED that lights up upon coil energization and a bright mechanical indicator flag showing physical armature displacement at a glance.
  • High-Density 4PDT Switching: Four isolated double-throw circuits permit simultaneous control of 4 separate loads or multi-phase line switching from a single 240VAC control trigger.
  • Standardized 14-Pin Plug-in Architecture: Mates with widespread PYF14A-series DIN-rail sockets, enabling tool-less relay swap-outs and rapid field replacement without disconnecting terminal wiring.
  • Environmentally Sealed Transparent Case: Heavy-duty clear polycarbonate enclosure protects contact surfaces from ambient dust, airborne particulates, and accidental contact while allowing visual inspection of internal mechanics.
  • High Dielectric Isolation: Certified 2,000V AC isolation between coil and contacts provides robust safety separation between high-voltage power loads and secondary automation controls.

Common Applications

  • Industrial Control Panels & Switchgear: Distributing control signals, interlocking safety circuits, and routing mains power inside factory automation cabinets.
  • HVAC & Building Automation: Switching blower fans, damper actuators, compressor contactors, and condensate pumps driven by 240V utility line commands.
  • Motor Starter Circuits & Interlocks: Forward/reverse motor directional interlocking, auxiliary emergency-stop safety disconnects, and status feedback loops.
  • Packaging & Processing Machinery: Sequencing multi-stage solenoids, heating element bands, and conveyor drive systems in automated production lines.
  • Lighting & Power Distribution: Controlling multi-zone commercial lighting banks and isolated auxiliary branch power circuits.

Usage Tips

  • Coil Supply Requirements:
    • Ensure the coil is powered with dedicated 220V to 240V AC (50/60 Hz).
    • Do not power this AC coil with DC voltage; applying continuous DC will cause excessive current draw, severe coil overheating, and permanent burnout due to the absence of AC inductive reactance.
  • Inductive Load De-Rating:
    • While rated for 5 A with purely resistive loads (cos φ = 1), de-rate the allowable switching current to 2 A to 3 A when driving inductive loads like small single-phase motors, solenoids, or magnetic contactors (cos φ  = 0.4, L/R = 7 ms).
    • For high-inductance AC circuits, install an external RC snubber circuit across the contacts to suppress back-EMF arcing and extend contact life.
  • Socket Pairing & Wiring:
    • Always pair with an industrial 14-pin DIN-rail socket (such as the PYF14A) using the integrated metal retaining clip to lock the relay securely against machine vibration.
    • Coil terminals correspond to Pin 13 and Pin 14. Pins 9, 10, 11, and 12 serve as the Common (COM) poles, while Pins 1, 2, 3, 4 represent Normally Closed (NC) and Pins 5, 6, 7, 8 represent Normally Open (NO).
  • Mechanical Installation Orientation: Mount sockets vertically where possible to facilitate natural heat dissipation around the enclosure and promote optimal gravity-assisted armature drop-out.
  • Field Testing Precautions: Avoid forcefully manually prying the internal contact leaf arms with screwdrivers; use designated test-button levers (if available on the socket bracket) or check electrical continuity across terminals using a multimeter.
