Product Details

The Original Panasonic Fire-Retardant PVC Electrical Insulation Tape (Red / 0.125mm–0.13mm Grade) is an industrial-grade, pressure-sensitive vinyl electrical tape engineered for primary electrical insulation, wire harness bundling, color-coding phase identification, and general cable repairs. Formulated with premium flame-retardant polyvinyl chloride (PVC) backing and a high-tack rubber-based pressure-sensitive adhesive, it delivers high dielectric breakdown strength, strong conformability around irregular splices, and resistance to moisture, alkalis, acids, and varying weather conditions. Compliant with international flame-retardancy standards (such as JIS C 2336 / IEC 60454), the Panasonic red insulation tape is widely utilized in residential and industrial electrical installations, automotive wiring, switchboard phase marking, HVAC systems, and electronic prototyping.

Features

  • Certified Flame Retardant: Self-extinguishes rapidly upon removal of open flames, preventing fire propagation along electrical cable ducts and conduit runs.
  • High Dielectric Strength (>5000V): Provides reliable primary electrical insulation for wiring splices rated up to 600V in domestic and commercial circuits.
  • Superior Elastic Stretch (Up to 200%): Conforms tightly to uneven joints, bends, and cable lugs without tearing, creating a smooth, void-free moisture-resistant seal.
  • Non-Corrosive Rubber Adhesive: High initial grab that leaves minimal gummy residue upon removal and does not corrode copper or aluminum conductors.
  • Distinct Red Color-Coding: High-visibility pigment facilitates clear visual identification of Red Phase (L1 / Phase A) lines in 3-phase AC distribution boards and positive DC rails (+VCC) in DC systems.
  • Weather & Moisture Resistant: Resists humidity, mild chemical exposure, and atmospheric aging, ensuring long-term bond strength without flag-peeling.

Common Applications

  • 3-Phase Electrical Color Coding: Phase marking (Red / L1) on main distribution panels, circuit breakers, busbars, and industrial disconnect switches.
  • Cable Splicing & Joint Insulation: Primary insulation wrapping over solder joints, twist-on wire connectors, and inline crimp sleeves up to 600V.
  • DC Power & Automotive Wiring: Marking and bundling positive (+) power feeds in 12V/24V/48V vehicle harnesses, battery banks, and solar inverter arrays.
  • Wire Harness Looming: Securing and organizing loose conductors in control cabinets, robotics enclosures, and industrial automation racks.
  • HVAC & Appliance Servicing: Insulating and weather-sealing control wiring in air conditioning units, refrigerators, and power tools.

Usage Tips

  • Surface Preparation: Ensure the wire jacket and conductors are clean, dry, and free of oil, grease, or flux residues before applying the tape to achieve maximum adhesive bonding.
  • Proper Wrapping Technique (Half-Lap & Tension):
    • Apply the tape with sufficient tension - stretching it to approximately 75% to 80% of its breaking elongation - to ensure tight conformance and eliminate internal air pockets.
    • Wrap in a half-lap pattern (each layer overlapping the previous layer by 50%), applying at least 2 to 4 layers over bare conductor splices.
  • Preventing End "Flagging": On the final turn / wrap, release all stretching tension and apply the last 15–20 mm with zero stretch, pressing firmly. This prevents the tape end from creeping back or unpeeling ("flagging") over time.
  • High-Voltage Layering: For applications exceeding 600V, apply self-amalgamating / rubber splicing tape as the primary insulation base, then overwrap with Panasonic PVC tape for mechanical protection and environmental sealing.
  • Storage Conditions: Store unused rolls in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, high heat, and solvent vapors to preserve the elasticity and adhesive tack.
