The PMS7003 is a digital, universal particle concentration sensor based on laser scattering principles. It is designed to continuously collect and calculate the number of suspended particles of different sizes in the air per unit volume, specifically PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10. This high-precision sensor is widely used in air purifiers, ventilation systems, and portable air quality monitoring devices due to its slim profile and accurate digital output.

Working Principle
The PMS7003 uses laser scattering to detect particles. A laser diode illuminates particles as they are pulled through the sensing chamber by an internal fan. The scattered light is captured by a photodetector and converted into electrical signals. Onboard algorithms process these signals into precise mass concentration values (ug/m³) based on the MIE scattering theory.
Features
- Six-Sided Shielding: Encased in a metal shell to prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI), ensuring stable readings in electronically noisy environments.
- Slim Design: At only 12mm thick, it is significantly thinner than the PMS5003, making it ideal for sleek, wall-mounted, or handheld devices.
- Dual-Output Mode: Provides data via UART in both "Active" mode (continuous updates) and "Passive" mode (data sent only when requested by the host MCU).
- Integrated Fan: Features a built-in constant-speed fan to ensure a consistent volume of air is sampled, improving the reliability of long-term data.
- Multi-Particle Reporting: Simultaneously outputs concentrations for PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10, as well as the actual count of particles per 0.1L of air.
Pin Configuration (1.27mm Pitch Connector)
- VCC: 5V Power Input
- GND: Ground
- SET: Standby/Working mode control (High = Working, Low = Standby)
- RX / TX: UART communication (3.3V Logic)
- RESET: Module reset (Low active)
Common Applications
- Smart Home: Air purifiers, air conditioners, and fresh air ventilation systems.
- Environmental Monitoring: Portable air quality meters and stationary outdoor pollution stations.
- Health & Safety: Detection of dust and smoke levels in workshops, kitchens, or smoking areas.
- IoT Weather Stations: Real-time smog and haze reporting for smart city projects.
Usage Tips
- Orientation: To prevent dust accumulation on the sensor optics, it is recommended to mount the sensor with the air inlet and outlet facing the side (horizontal) rather than facing directly up or down.
- Logic Level: Although the sensor requires 5V for power, the UART pins use 3.3V logic. If connecting to a 5V Arduino, use a level shifter to protect the sensor's RX/TX pins.
- Maintenance: Avoid using the sensor in extremely high-humidity environments (above 95%) or in areas with high oil mist, as this can coat the internal laser and fan, leading to inaccurate readings.
